Advanced VIPEQ NL-Enhanced Thermal Insulation Plaster
A cork-rich, VIPEQ NL-enhanced insulating plaster for internal walls. Controls condensation, eliminates cold spots, and improves thermal comfort — applied in a single breathable layer with zero VOCs.
Product Overview
VIPEQ NL Cork Coating is a fine-grain, pre-mixed insulating cork plaster enhanced with VIPEQ NL — the same ultra-low-conductivity material used in aerospace engineering. Applied by trowel in layers of 5 mm to internal walls, it delivers genuine thermal insulation without consuming floor area or requiring structural alteration.
It works by raising the surface temperature of cold walls above the dew point — preventing the surface condensation that causes black spot mould. Unlike rigid insulation boards, VIPEQ NL Cork Coating conforms to irregular surfaces, wraps around reveals and cold bridges, and is fully compatible with heritage substrates including lime, stone, and solid brick.
Fully vapour-permeable (Class W1), zero VOC, and naturally fire retardant — VIPEQ's NL Cork Coating system is one of the few internal insulation systems suitable for listed buildings, conservation areas, and occupied spaces including schools and healthcare settings.

Why VIPEQ NL Cork Coating
Built specifically for the challenges of the Irish climate — damp, cold, and particularly hard on older solid-wall construction. VIPEQ NL Cork Coating addresses the structural causes of heat loss, condensation, and mould, not just the visible effects.
Formulated with VIPEQ NL — the same ultra-low-conductivity material used in aerospace engineering — VIPEQ NL Cork Coating delivers a thermal conductivity of just 0.04 W/mK. Applied in a single coat of 3–5 mm over existing surfaces. Targets cold bridges, window reveals, and north-facing walls where heat loss is greatest.
VIPEQ NL Cork Coating raises the surface temperature of cold internal walls above the dew point, eliminating the condition that causes surface condensation and black spot mould. Designed for the root cause — not just the symptom.
Class W1 vapour permeability allows moisture to migrate naturally through the wall structure. Essential for Ireland's solid-wall, stone, and heritage buildings where trapping moisture inside the fabric causes serious long-term damage.
Cork's natural cellular structure absorbs airborne noise and vibration, reducing acoustic transmission through treated walls. Particularly effective in terraced houses, apartments, and commercial interiors.
Independently classified to EN 13501-1. VIPEQ NL Cork Coating is naturally fire retardant without the use of halogenated flame retardants — safer for occupants, children, and sensitive environments.
Formulated from natural renewable cork — a carbon-negative raw material harvested without felling trees. Contains zero volatile organic compounds, making VIPEQ NL Cork Coating safe for application in occupied homes, schools, and healthcare settings.
Vapour-open, lime-compatible, and non-invasive. VIPEQ NL Cork Coating is one of the few internal insulation systems appropriate for solid stone, brick, and heritage buildings — including properties in conservation areas.
Trowel-applied directly to existing walls with no battening, fixings, or structural alteration. Conforms to irregular surfaces and wraps around reveals — areas where rigid boards simply cannot reach.
Applications
VIPEQ NL Cork Coating is designed for internal wall applications where space is limited, breathability is essential, or rigid insulation boards are impractical or undesirable.

Technical Coverage Rate
Single coat 3–5 mm · approx. 3.5 m² per 7 kg bucket. Multiple coats optional — allow full drying between layers. Coverage varies by substrate porosity and technique.
Critical First Step
Correct preparation is the single most important factor in long-term performance. Inadequate surface prep is the primary cause of application failures and adhesion issues.
All surfaces must be structurally sound — repair cracks, spalls, loose render, and voids prior to application.
Remove all loose material, dust, grease, oil, flaking paint, and efflorescence thoroughly.
Ensure the substrate is completely dry. Do not apply to actively wet or saturated walls.
Apply a VIPEQ-recommended bonding primer to highly absorbent, glazed, or smooth substrates.
Mask all adjacent surfaces, floors, window frames, and joinery before beginning application.
Minimum ambient and surface temperature must be +5°C. Never apply in frost conditions or when rain is forecast.
How to Apply
01
Clean, repair, and prime the substrate as required. For highly absorbent surfaces apply a diluted bonding coat. Allow to fully tack before proceeding.
02
VIPEQ NL Cork Coating is supplied pre-mixed. Stir thoroughly using an electric paddle mixer (min. 1,800W, 780 rpm) until fully homogeneous. Add colourant at this stage if required.
03
Apply VIPEQ NL Cork Coating using a stainless steel trowel. Work firmly into the substrate in smooth, even passes. Apply in a single coat from 3 mm up to 5 mm over existing plastered or painted surfaces.
04
Allow minimum 12–24 hours between coats. Do not overcoat until the surface is firm, dry to touch, and uniform in appearance. In cold or humid conditions allow the full 24 hours.
05
For greater thermal performance, additional coats of 3–5 mm can be applied once the previous coat is fully dry. Each additional coat further improves thermal performance.
06
Finish with a fine setting coat plaster, breathable paint, or limewash. Do not apply vapour-barrier, vinyl-based, or impermeable coatings over VIPEQ NL Cork Coating.
